Pratt Dormitory
Brooklyn, New York

Type: Graduate School Dormitory
30,000 sq. ft
Critic: Lawrence Blough
Fall 2015

In collaboration with Ed Wu

Located between the intersection of Grand Ave & Myrtle Ave in Brooklyn, New York, the Graduate Dormitory aims to impose an interactive student community through the use of shared kitchen and communal lounges. The dormitory is organized into small “villages” of varying unit configurations that “orbit” around a shared double-height lounge and kitchen space. These localized “villages” are then networked through an exterior stair system.

The two facade systems alternate between inside and outside of the building to
pull the “outside” in, creating the notion of entering a campus on a city block.
